Founded by the San Pedro and Wilmington Chambers of Commerce in collaboration with both the Port and City of Los Angeles, the Port Technologies Development Center is a public benefit, non-profit technology center and business incubator designed to create a new "green collar" job base of Los Angeles' harbor area communities to replace the loss of the are's former mainstay industries...fishing, canning, shipbuilding/repair.

The Port Technologies Development Center has been in the planning stages for the past nearly two years, however, several recent milestones such as the formation of the Center's five-member board of directors, completion and submission of federal application for non-profit designation, retention of interim managing director, negotiation of a facility lease, successful fund development resulting in approximately $100,000 in grant dollars, and the near completion of a national search for the Center's permanent executive director.
