Who We Are

The San Pedro Bay Port Technologies Development Center (PTDC) is a public benefit, non-profit technology center and business incubator founded by the San Pedro and Wilmington Chambers of Commerce in collaboration with both the City and Port of Los Angeles. Its mission is to attract technology companies to the Los Angeles harbor area that will create new well-paid jobs by developing, testing, commercializing, manufacturing and marketing products and solutions for local and international port-related environmental, security and logistics challenges.

After two years of research and planning, the PTDC was incorporated in 2009, expects to open its first facility in 2010 and is currently soliciting and interviewing potential resident and affiliate technology companies.

Locating a port-related technology business at the Port of Los Angeles/Long Beach presents many advantages to the emerging or established company:

1.) The Los Angeles/Long Beach port complex is one of the world’s largest “petrie dishes” for testing emerging technologies, and is home to many port tenant companies anxious to help test technologies;

2.) Ten major port expansion/redevelopment projects are currently underway that will require new technologies to comply with mandated environmental and security requirements;

3.) The port represents a large, immediately accessible base of potential customers, sales to which, could lead to development of a domestic and international export market.

4.) PTDC clients will have access to Los Angeles' major research universities - USC, UCLA and CalTech - and the federally funded Small Business Development Center (SBDC) through Memorandums of Understanding with these institutions.

5.) The Los Angeles area, of which the port-adjacent communities of San Pedro and Wilmington are a part, is one of the most open, dynamic, diverse areas in the world, with a deep pool of engineering and creative talent.
